The Everchanging World of Artificial Intelligence (AI): What Should Be Important?

It virtually impossible to escape hearing or reading about AI everyday. We’ll explore how people are interacting with AI intentionally, but also unknowingly. What’s AI and what’s not AI. We will start with an overview of interesting AI applications and technologies. AI is revolutionizing many fields, jobs and industries. With a question for contemplation: What should AI be used for?
Then, we will look more closely at using AI with the lens of AI Ethics and Responsible AI. Considering the obvious issues of misuse, bias, and misinformation but also copyright and environmental impacts. Allowing for contemplation of this idea: What are the ethical concerns of AI?

About the Speaker
Kevin Matsui, MBA, P.Eng. is the Managing Director of the Centre for Advancing Responsible and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (CARE-AI) at the University of Guelph. He leads efforts to grow the Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning and Data Science community on campus at U of G and ensuring that it is well connected externally. Kevin has spent many years in High Performance Computing (HPC) and the software industry in a variety of roles combined with an educational background in engineering and business.
Katie McLean, OCT, MA is the Manager, Program Development at CARE-AI. An Ontario Certified Teacher, she has handled the project management and educational design of asynchronous online training programs introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI).
CARE-AI helps focus research, training and entrepreneurship in AI at U of G. It uniquely combines ethics, governance, and social responsibility with technical leadership. CARE-AI supports academic programs and training programs that embed AI ethics and the responsible usage of AI in addition to technology.
