This seminar will discuss manufacturing and logistics automation today, and where the current technologies are headed. Focus will primarily be on autonomous mobile robotics. Students will learn what education is required to work within this industry, have a preview of the current technologies and how they work, and brainstorm future applications and technologies that can help advance this field of work.
About the Speaker
Tom O’Neill received his Baccalaureate in Applied Science – Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Guelph. After graduation, he began working at the OTTO Motors division of Clearpath Robotics, which was (recently purchased by Rockwell Automation) a startup specializing in autonomous vehicles for material transportation in manufacturing and logistics. He now holds a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) License through the province of Ontario. At OTTO Motors, he is a Senior Product Manager specializing in the hardware aspect of the autonomous vehicles. He is responsible for taking customer problem statements and turning them into requirements for the engineering teams to follow, planning long term roadmaps, and making trade-off decisions.
