My name is Wayne Toth, I am the Co-Ordinator of the Motive Power Programs @ Niagara College. I have been at the college for 18 years. My main goal at the College is to bring new technology to the Motive Power program. My background includes owning my own Auto Shop in St. Catharines that is now managed by one of our graduates and doing very well. I also worked for G.M. Canada as the Lead Instructor for Technicians across Canada. I have always had a passion to teach Apprentices as they progress into their Automotive Career. There is many great opportunities in the Automotive Field. We have a very exciting and popular program @N.C. There is a huge demand for Automotive Service Technicians in the Trade. Our goal is to continue to graduate very successful candidates to fill the Industry need. The Automotive trade is a very lucrative career path. The technology changes so rapidly and we constantly update the curriculum to send our grads into the workforce with the knowledge to become a valued employee. Many opportunities for Females and Males in the Auto Career path as many Industry partners are in contact to hire as Automotive Service Technicians / Service Advisors and Parts Personal. Many Automotive Dealerships have seen a huge shift in Female customers bringing their vehicles in for service and prefer to see a female dealing with them. Along with the 2 year Motive Power Program, we run an Automotive PreApprenticeship Program for Females. Our Program covers new technology that is linked to Hybrid and Electric Vehicles. Many automotive shops are looking to hire our grads with this experience. We have a State of the art facility that includes a Green Automotive Technology Lab. About the Speaker
Wayne Toth is the Co-coordinator of the Motive Power Programs at Niagara College. His role over the past 14 years has been to upgrade the program to educate our students on the new technology in the industry. This is constantly changing and there is very good career opportunities for new students. Wayne’s background is from owning an Automotive Electric business for many years and then pursuing a Career with General Motors, AC / Delco as the Lead Trainer for Canada, transitioning into a position at Niagara College. Wayne’s passion is training young people to become Automotive Service Technicians in this very exciting field.
Ian McCrory is a professor at Niagara College with many years of automotive experience. In the last 20 years Ian was the head mechanic at a local garage where he specialized in electrical diagnosis and drivability repairs. He started working at the college part time in 2017 and in 2019 was hired full time as a motive power professor. He is currently teaching courses in powertrain control, diagnostic principles and trends in automotive, where he introduces students to electric and hybrid vehicles.
