In this dynamic writing workshop of science-fiction—specifically eco-fiction—we will explore the components and properties of “story” and the role of science in science fiction. We will then apply what we’ve learned to create a live story of the future using storyboarding tools. I will discuss story components and what eco-fiction and dystopian science fiction is. Lecture will discuss premise, hero journey steps, use and role of science, and character archetypes in story. I will explore with the class the importance of “story promise” and how to deliver it effectively through integration of plot, character, setting and theme. We will then assemble a story together.
