Materials Engineering & the Journey to Master the Elements:
Join the avatar on their journey to master the four elements: Air, Earth, Fire and Water. Take parts in hands on experiments in which you change the properties of materials by employing the principles of materials engineering. Demos will include strengthening materials through deformation, alloying and phase transformations. Enjoy other fund demos including, making a liquid freeze instantly by changing the pressure, creating a 500oC flame using nothing more than the power of your fist and making water disappear!

About the Speakers
Hatem Zurob: Professor of Materials Engineering at McMaster University. His area of research is phase transformations. The goal of his research is to change the way in which the atoms are arranged in the material in order to improve material properties.
Ethan Meng: Is a third year Materials Engineering student at McMaster University. Ethan is VP Outreach at the Materials Society.
